Privacy Policy — Electron Scanner

Last updated: 30 July 2026

Electron Scanner does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party tracking of any kind. Everything the app produces stays on your device until you choose to share or save it somewhere.

What the app collects

Nothing. There is no server behind this app, no telemetry, and no crash reporting service. No information about you, your device, or your documents is sent to Kopak Labs or to anyone else.

Where your scans go

Pages you scan or photograph are written to the app's own private storage on your device — the cache directory on Android, a temporary session folder on Windows. Other apps cannot read them.

They stay there only for the current session. The desktop app deletes its session folder when you quit. Anything you want to keep, you save or share deliberately, and it then goes only where you send it.

Network use

The app talks to scanners on your own local network using the eSCL (AirScan) protocol, and it discovers them using mDNS on that same network. That traffic never leaves your network. The app makes no connections to the internet, to Kopak Labs, or to any third party.

Because most scanners and printers serve eSCL over plain HTTP rather than HTTPS, connections to them are unencrypted. This is a limitation of the scanners themselves. The traffic stays within your local network.

Permissions, and why each one exists

PermissionWhy
Internet, network and Wi-Fi stateTo reach scanners on your local network. No external connections are made.
Nearby Wi-Fi devicesAndroid 13+ requires this to discover devices on the local network. It is declared with neverForLocation: the app does not use it to determine your location and does not request location permission.
CameraOnly when you tap to photograph a page. Images are saved to the app's private storage on your device and are never uploaded.
Wake lockTo keep the device awake while a page transfers. A high-resolution page can take several minutes, and a sleeping device drops the connection mid-scan.
Foreground service (data sync)To keep a scan running if you switch to another app. It runs only while a scan is in progress and stops when it finishes.
NotificationsTo show scan progress while the app is in the background. Android requires a notification for the service above.

Children

The app is not directed at children and collects no data from anyone, including children.

Changes
